Valugar is a Warden of the Archivists, the finest of the hunters the order sends after anything that wakes from the old world — and anyone it wakes inside. Outlaws call him the Lamplighter. Tobin Henswick is fourteen, an orchard boy from a village that no longer exists. Alone in the greatest city in the world, he has one friend left: a gentle, curious Voice that lives in his thoughts and only wants to help.
